Roller skates and ice cream

One month from today…

I’ll arrive at Moody Bible Institute’s campus in Chicago.

I’ll find my roommate, give her a huge hug, and meet her family.

I’ll stand in lines to check in, get my ID, sign up for auditions etc.

I’ll take all my dorm stuff into Houghton Hall and onto the third floor, (correction) WEST wing, room 320.

My parents will go to a parent lecture…

And then the goodbyes.

But there will be so many ‘hello’s to new things!

So the question is: am I :) or :(?

If you’ll pardon my online jargin: IDK! (That means “I don’t know!”)

I’m eighteen (since when?! Umm…who forgot to tell me I’m OLD?) and I’m about to go to COLLEGE. Okay, I’m not OLD old…but when time starts picking up the pace, it feels that way. I’ve started saying things like “It seems like just yesterday…”. =P When people ask if I’m excited, I don’t give a definite “Yes!”. I say something like “Well, uhh…yes, but I’m sorta nervous too” and then maybe go on to say something about it being hard to leave family and friends…yadda yadda yadda.
But a little something happened. On a recent trip to a nursing home, I talked with two ladies about their childhood. They grinned from their wheel chairs as they told me about roller skating, tennis, Ferris wheels and all their other good memories. After we said goodbye, we stopped to talk to another woman whose husband of fifty years was terminal. She was a believer, but the pain of impending loss was unmistakable.
I’ve lived only 18 years and all of these women may have less than that left. Most of their life is gone already, but I have just begun mine. So why am I griping about having to move on? If I keep doing this, I’ll be complaining until I’m 89…or dead. Life is always changing and I’m slowly learning to embrace it.
Now that I’ve bored you with my inner musings ;)….

My college pile is growing.

Don’t worry; I’ve got a ton more stuff besides that. My roomie is keeping me updated on what she’s buying, and my mom is keeping me updated on her stress level. Mothers. I’m the one leaving and she’s the one that’s stressed out. (?)...I guess that’s what love does to you. =]

So am I happy or sad? Happy. Because sad isn’t the right word. It’s more like the feeling you get after eating a bowl of ice cream. You’re disappointed that it’s gone, but you’re still happy that you ate it. And then you’re on to the next bowl! Maybe it’s a different flavor, but that’s not a bad thing. If you stick with one flavor for too long it can get boring. There’s nothing like a change to tickle your taste buds. =d But you can still use your same favorite bowl, spoon, and toppings. They never get old—like family and good friends. They’ll always be around no matter the flavor.

Okay, my inspiration is melting. You can check back and maybe I’ll add some additional thoughts later, but I have to go get ready to leave right now. Yes, I can drive finally. I got my license on June 14th—the same day that….something else exciting happened. Maybe I’ll write about that later.
